Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-06
This Privacy Policy explains how Salvo (the "app"), an iOS application for remembering the products you love or regret, handles your information. Salvo is an independent app developed by Berardino Chiarello (the "developer", "we", "us"). We built Salvo to need as little of your data as possible.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no login.
- No advertising and no sale of personal data.
- Your products, photos, ratings and notes live on your device.
- If you enable iCloud, that data syncs only through your own private iCloud account, which we cannot access.
- Firebase analytics and crash reporting are disabled until you explicitly allow them.
- Purchase status is processed by Apple and RevenueCat. Neither service receives the contents of your collection.
Information the app uses
Your collection. The products you save, including names, brands, categories, star ratings, notes and photos, are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage. If you have iCloud enabled, this content syncs across your own devices through Apple iCloud. We have no servers that store your collection and no way to read it.
Automatic backups. Salvo keeps a small rotating set of backup files inside the app's local storage. You can also create, export, import or delete backups yourself. Exported files go only to the destination you choose through Apple's share or Files UI.
Camera. With your permission, Salvo uses the camera for two things: taking product photos and scanning barcodes. Barcode scanning happens on your device and is used to match a product against your own saved collection. Camera frames are processed locally and never uploaded.
Photo library. If you choose a product photo from your library instead of the camera, the app accesses only the photo you pick.
Analytics and crash reporting
With your explicit permission, the app enables Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. Until you choose “Allow”, both collections remain disabled. When enabled, Firebase receives events such as "a product was saved" or "a scan was performed", crash and performance diagnostics, and general device information such as model, iOS version, language and an installation-scoped identifier. It does not include names, brands, photos, ratings or notes of the products you save, and we do not use it to build an advertising profile of you. You can change this choice from the app's settings. Remote Config retrieves app settings such as update notices and legal URLs. Firebase's handling of this data is described in Google's Firebase privacy documentation.
Subscriptions and purchases
Salvo Premium is handled through RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions and purchase restoration on our behalf. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, app-generated user identifier and your purchase history (which Salvo Premium plan you bought and its status) so it can confirm your entitlement across your devices. It does not receive your name, email, payment details or the contents of your collection — payment itself is handled entirely by Apple's App Store. RevenueCat's handling of this data is described in RevenueCat's privacy policy.
What we do not do
- We do not require or create user accounts.
- We do not run advertising or sell data to data brokers.
- We do not upload your collection, your photos or your notes anywhere.
- We do not use analytics, crash or purchase data to track you across other apps or websites.
Retention and deletion
Your collection remains on your devices and in your private iCloud account until you delete individual products, reset the app's data, or remove the corresponding iCloud data. Local automatic backups rotate and retain at most five files. Firebase and RevenueCat retain data according to their own service policies and our configured retention settings. Because Salvo has no developer-run account, there is no separate Salvo account to delete.
Apple services
Salvo relies on Apple frameworks (such as iCloud for optional sync). Your use of these is also governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. If you download the app from the App Store, Apple may collect data as described in its own policies; we receive only aggregate, anonymized App Store statistics that do not identify you.
Children's privacy
Salvo is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud, you stay in control. You can delete any product, your entire collection, or the app itself at any time, which removes the data from the device. Managing your iCloud data is done through your Apple ID settings.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note the change in the app or its App Store listing.
